Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description/Blazon
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02cm) in height overall consisting of a gold bayonet and pickaxe saltirewise between four white ermine spots and extending slightly over a scarlet enamel square with point up.

Symbolism
The bayonet and pickaxe allude to combat engineering. The pickaxe also symbolizes gold mining and refers to California, "the Golden State" where the Group was first activated at Fresno. The four ermine spots stand for the unit's battle honors in Europe, World War II: Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Ardennes-Alsace. Scarlet and white are colors used by the Engineers.

Background
The insignia was approved on 17 Apr 1969.
